The New Hunger by Isaac Marion Book Review

Well written but very little actual plot.

This story was well written and I really enjoy Marion's writing style. However, nothing much happens in this story.

There isn't really a plot. The characters are just wandering around aimlessly. It does lead up to the start of Warm Bodies (at the stadium). But good writing can only do so much for a story - if there is no plot then the story doesn't move forward or build up to anything bigger.

It was decent enough and a quick read so I would suggest reading it if you liked Warm Bodies.

But be sure to keep in mind Warm Bodies actually has a plot and a more well-rounded storyline. This is book is almost like a super long character introduction.

Although it was quite interesting to learn more about R's backstory. Readers got to join R's journey as soon as he opened his eyes as one of the undead. We get to follow along as he tries to understand this new hunger that is deep inside his animalistic body.

What I enjoyed a lot about Marion's first book is that we got to travel instead a zombie's mind. He posed many deeper philosophical questions and it was truly a unique angle on the classic zombie horror tale (although it was horror mixed with romance - another refreshingly unique take on zombie lore).

Overall, this was an enjoyable, quick read - but it was also a stretched out, glorified character introduction piece.
