Guilty pleasures? Hamilton offered nothing but pain throughout this entire novel

Unfortunately I was introduced to this series by many ‘Top 10 vampire romance series’ that had other good vamp books on the list so I figured I’d give this series a try. Boy do I wish I hadn’t.

I made it about 40% of the way through before I decided I couldn’t stand this book. The main character is a bitch who tries to have morals but through her actions it just isn’t believable. Plus I was sold romance - where? There was no romance at all in this. Just about 90% of the book is the main character getting her ass handed to her and looking pathetic. God, please give the readers some small wins so we can at least root for the MC, instead it’s a pathetic mess of getting our teeth kicked in repeatedly.

I honestly don’t think much happened at all in this book. She goes to a club, then has to solve a mystery, then goes to some weird sex party, then the male sidekick she had dies (also suddenly he is her ‘lover’ even tho they kissed ONCE) yahhh okay....

I was bored while reading it, apparently this series is action packed...again I ask - where? All I saw is the MC being afraid of every vamp she came across while claiming she wasn’t afraid and being brave. Bullshit. I was also majorly confused most of the time. Now I have read a lot of books in my time but it’s easier to keep up with a Shakespearean play than to try and understand the scenes in this book. Anita is in a prison, then suddenly almost raped by wererats with human bits. I just don’t get it, I understand shapeshifters and werewolves and even werepanthers but wererats?! What are there werebumblebees next?! Such crap.

I enjoy when authors include more than just vampires in their supernatural worlds. But for me the line between ghouls and zombies was too blurred and confusing. It’s like the author just dumped every supernatural being she found on Google into this storyline without explaining the specifics of her story world. As we know,  for zombies and ghouls and even vampires, their abilities and characteristics are usually different in each author’s unique built world.

I would not recommend this book to anyone and although a lot of reviews said the series doesn’t really get bad until book 10, I can’t bear the thought of haven’t to read another book in this series. I cannot fathom the people who rated this series highly, maybe I read a different book?!

The bottom line is this book was awful. One of the most confusing, boring and dumb books I’ve ever read. Usually, I don’t give harsh reviews, and if I really didn’t like the book I would still try to find something positive to say about it, but I can truly say I enjoyed nothing about this book.
